Police Cars and Confession

I get nervous if I see a law enforcement vehicle driving behind me.

Don’t we all?!

I know I’m not breaking the law, but my license plate was out of date for a significant period of time. Even though it's in proper order now, out of habit, I still get nervous if I see a patrol car behind me.

One might leave the confessional, but later stress over forgotten venial sin that wasn’t mentioned.

Scrupulosity is a pest!

After the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we can still struggle to know that we're forgiven.

When I see a patrol car behind me, I have to remind myself that there's no reason to be nervous—my license plate is up to date!

When we’re following the law, we remind ourselves not to be nervous about patrol cars behind us.

Our Lord told Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque that He did not remember her spiritual director’s last mortal sin.

May we remember—after Our Lord forgives us in the Sacrament of Reconciliation—that like a patrol car in the rearview mirror, our sins are in the rearview mirror.

And we have nothing to worry about!
