Jesus asks, "Do I ask for more than you can give?"
About Our Living Spirit
Eileen Renders
Have you ever wondered about our inner spirit and where it is housed? Curiosity has always been a part of my nature, and I am grateful for that, as it often leads us to where it has led me: research. However, this article is not about curiosity or research; rather, it is about inner reflection. I have asked myself where the spirit rests inside of us, and I decided it would be most comfortable where it feels love and is in touch with who we really are. Love and strength are said to be rooted within our heart.
As a child, we all heard the little dittie: “The ankle bone is connected to the thigh bone, the thigh bone is connected to the knee bone”, and so on. Therefore, it would make sense to believe that the spirit and heart communicate, and that the heart can send messages to the brain for interpreting and expressing our emotions and values. If this is true, the Brain responds by taking the messages received by the heart and expressing them outwardly through words and/or actions.
Going on the assumption that the above theory is true, where and how does our soul fit into this inner communication system?
Perhaps it makes sense to visualize that the heart and soul are also united. Our soul holds onto the results of our daily actions, good or bad. Our souls are one day to be judged by God based on our free-will choices. I believe a “strong spirit” is nurtured by a good soul and a loving heart. Whenever we stand up and support what we believe to be loving and merciful, we are full of love, spirit, and strength, correct?
Therefore, a strong spirit is a spirit that desires justice, love, mercy, and forgiveness. These are God-like qualities that help us retain a purity within our soul. Our brain helps us communicate who we are and what we believe. And of course, our emotions are real, felt deeply within our being: heart, mind, and soul/spirit.
