As we grow spiritually and our relationship with Christ develops, we begin to witness the changes in that relationship. We may feel His calling or His urging in ways we once had no interest in or motivation for.

We may begin to question why our perfect Creator seems to have chosen us, asking ourselves, “Why me?”

It is quite natural that we desire to grow and to learn about Jesus and His ways. And, while we are focusing on Jesus and doing our very best, we can easily lose sight of our goal as we feel and see God working in our lives. The joy and uplifting of feeling God’s love and attention can also cause the Evil One to pay us attention, and do his best to pull us away from God. He is subtle and cunning.

When God touches us in special ways and calls us to be of service to Him through helping to “bring in the sheep”, remain alert. We may become overwhelmed with the thought of God allowing us to work for Him. It is such a special, loving reinforcement that we have come a long way. However, when we ask God, “Why me, Lord, why have you chosen me?” We are focusing on something “special” about ourselves rather than realizing we are not special. Focus should always remain on our Creator. God accepts us as sinners; He is the only perfect One. He is loving, forgiving, merciful, and full of humility.

We are not the focus; we are being prideful. When we believe we are guilty of becoming prideful, we need to pray for humility. Whatever God asks of us shows His divine mercy. God loves all His creatures. Be grateful, feel the joy, but do, practice, and pray for humility as we work for Christ; we must remain conscious to keep the focus on God. When we become prideful, we are at risk of losing our inspiration and motivation from God to serve and of becoming an example of God’s love and mercy.
