Mary Magdalene resided in the fishing village of Magdala, on the Sea of Galilee. Jesus saved her soul from evil and she became one of His most beloved faithful followers. Her witness to Jesus' miracles and teachings led her to be loyal to Him, even witnessing His cruel Passion and Death, weeping bitterly at the foot of the cross at the loss of her great teacher and friend. She stood by Mary, the Virgin Mother of God, many times during her three short years of knowing Jesus. She is the uncounted Disciple. The abandoned woman to all, except Jesus. In her heart, no one ever treated her with respect, especially men and those who knew of her profession. She had grown used to being used. But Jesus showed her how to respect herself, therefore allowing her to respect God and feel the forgiveness that He offers each one of us. Her bitterness towards life was quenched with true Love. For the first time in her life she truly felt how she should be treated and abandoned her old ways and followed a new path. The path that was led by Jesus. A lit path. One that showed her that leaving old ways, brought on new and more profitable ways. She learned the worth of her soul and she gave it 100% to God, from the moment she saw Jesus forgiving her.
Her feast day is today. July 22nd. Remember her with love and as an example of what forgiving others and ourselves can do. She reigns in Heaven along with the other Apostles. I believe she sits at the same table of the Last Supper in Eternal Paradise, with Jesus smiling at her Redemption and welcoming her to eat and drink of the Holy Sacrifice He offers to us all at each and every Mass.
St Mary Magdalene, I love you! Please pray for us!
