2 Things You Can Do to be a Modern-Day Mary Magdalene

All of the Saints are wonderful examples for Christians to follow. Those who learn from their lives often find that doing so strengthens their own personal relationships with God. Furthermore, one of the most popular Saints is Saint Mary Magdalene, who was the first to see Jesus after He was resurrected. 

Also, many Catholics, including myself, have chosen her as their confirmation saint, which shows that a lot of people find her to be an inspiring woman whom they can relate to. It also shows that lots of us hope to be as faithful followers of Jesus as she was. But what can be difficult for some of those people is trying to figure out how they can do such a thing. Things are much different now than they were when she was alive, so those who wish to follow her example have to think about how they can do it in a way that would be effective in modern times, which is not easy. But there are actually a couple of simple things one can try if they find themselves wanting to go down that path. 

Give Yourself To God 

One of the things no one can really deny once they have read the Bible is the fact that after Jesus cured her, Saint Mary Magdalene truly gave her life to Him. While we do not know for sure what her life before that was like, it is safe to say that her encounter with Jesus made her decide to leave it all behind and follow Him. 

Therefore, those who wish to live more like she did should try to do the same thing. They should consider, every day when they wake up, focusing on doing things that ultimately just point to God, and trying their best to avoid sinful behavior. That is easier said than done, but the example that Saint Mary Magdalene set shows that it is only hard, not impossible. Also, those who may struggle with that can try things like asking for her intercession and praying the prayer of abandonment. 

Spread God’s Word 

One of the things that Saint Mary Magdalene is most famous for is telling the apostles that she had seen Jesus alive after He was crucified. According to the Bible, she also told them some other things after that. Therefore, those who wish to be like modern-day versions of her so that they may inspire others to become Christians can try something extremely simple: sharing God’s Word with others. 

That might not sound like a big deal since it takes little effort, but it actually is. In fact, something that supports that is that there are so many verses throughout the entire Bible that are about sharing the gospel with other people. There are a lot of other ways in which I think we could try to become as devoted as she was to Jesus in today’s society, but that and giving ourselves to God while abandoning our old lives are two of the most important ones, and they are both something that everyone can do in some way or another.
