Just as With Jesus' Friend Lazarus, Jesus Can Intervene and Provide Us With a Long Life

There are several verses within the Catholic Bible in which Jesus promises a long life to those who serve and obey Him. In the Catholic Bible, Jesus taught us. Matthew 22:37-40, where He summarizes the Law and the Prophets, calling obedience to God’s commandments the foundation of eternal life.

Ephesians 6:2-3 (taken from the Catholic (Douay-Rheims version), which quotes the Old Testament but is often associated with Jesus’ teaching on obedience. “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

“Honor your father and mother’ which is the first commandment with a promise, ‘so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”

John 14:15, Loving Jesus means keeping His commandments

John 15:9-10, Remaining in Jesus’ love through obedience

Luke 6:46, Obedience to Jesus’ word is essential

Matthew 22:37-40, Obedience to God’s commandments is central to life with Him.

These verses in the New Testament (above) are clearly written: “Keeping God’s commandments and loving Him is the only path to His love and to receiving His blessings.

Because no one knows the day or hour, young or old, when one may be taken and standing in front of God to be judged. Therefore, we cannot assume that we “have time” to get our lives together. We must take His word seriously and begin each new day in observance of His commandments. When we do this and sincerely apply ourselves, the blessings from God will not only forgive our sins, but also give us the determination, satisfaction, and grace to live a life that God desires of each of us.
