A Study of Hebrews Part 10 Part II

“Now where there is a remission of these. There is no more oblation for sin. Having therefore, brethren, a confidence in the entering into the holies by the blood of Christ; A new and living way which he hath dedicated for us through the veil, that is to say, his flesh, And a high priest over the house of God: Let us draw near with a true heart in fulness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washing with clean water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering (for he is faithful that he hath promised), And let us consider one another, to provoke unto charity and to good works: Not forsaking out assembly, as some are accustomed; but comforting one another, and so much the more as you see the day approaching. For if we sin wilfully after having knowledge of the truth, there is now left no sacrifice for sins, but a certain dreadful expectation of judgement, and the rage of fire which shall consume the adversaries. A man making void the law of Moses, dieth without any mercy under two or three witnesses: How much more, do you think he deserveth worse punishments, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath esteemed the blood of the testament unclean, by which he was sanctified, and hath offered an affront to the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said: Vengeance belongeth to me, and I will repay. And again: The Lord shall judge his people. In is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. But call to mind the former days, wherein being illuminated, you endured in a great fight of afflictions. And on the one hand, indeed, by reproaches and tribulations, were made a grazingstock; and on the other, became compaions of them that were used in such sort. For you both had the compassion on hem that were in bands, and took with joy the being stripped of your own goods, knowing that you have a better and lasting substance. Do not therefore lost your confidence, which hath a great reward. For patience is necessary for you; that, doing the will of God, you may receive the promise. For yet a little and very little while, and he that is to come, will come, and will not delay. But my just man liveth by faith; but if he withdraw himself, he shall not please my soul. But we are not children withdrawing unto perdition, but of of faith to the saving of the soul”.
So, since we ended discussing v. 18 last time, we're starting with it, this time.” Now where there is a remission of these. There is no more oblation for sin”. And as I've explained, oh so many times, the sacrifice of the Mass is that SAME sacrifice as at Calvary. I know I have a largely non-Catholic audience (thank you for reading)! So, we're do some exagesis on some other verses.
One of the things I've never understood is denial of baptismal regeneration. This is unbiblical. I want to really get into this verse, “Let us draw near with a true heart in fulness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washing with clean water.” Note what it doesn't say. It DOESN'T say “baptism is symbolic”, or “born again refers to a conversion experience”. And I know that sounds kind of harsh. NO. I've probably written about baptism more than any other topic. It would take a very long time to share all of that. What else do I want to get into? Ever been told you don't have to go to church? Well, about that... “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering (for he is faithful that he hath promised), And let us consider one another, to provoke unto charity and to good works: Not forsaking out assembly, as some are accustomed; but comforting one another, and so much the more as you see the day approaching.” Now, I'm sure you may be thinking, “they worshiped in house churches back then”. Yes, they did. Churches were built for the very reason of having a dedicated place of worship, so Christians could gather in a place designated for worship.
And, one last thing I want to touch on,
“For if we sin wilfully after having knowledge of the truth, there is now left no sacrifice for sins, but a certain dreadful expectation of judgement, and the rage of fire which shall consume the adversaries.”. So, outside of the Jesus's one sacrifice, we can't have forgiveness of sins. To Protestants reading this; understand, quoted Hebrews isn't an argument against the Catholic/Eastern Orthodox position. To the Catholic/Eastern Orthodox people reading this, you NEED to know Hebrews and how this book applies to the oblation of the Mass/Divine Liturgy.

I'm not feeling so well, so, I may just do a book review for Tuesday's article (it's not going to be in too much detail).  I already have my article on Hebrews 11 written down on paper, it's the typing it I'm worried about.
