Remember (Part I) - The Importance of Memory in Scripture

One of the most inane social media comments I had the misfortune of reading recently came on the day of the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. Each year, pro-life advocates and supporters, both religious and non, gather from across the nation to march in opposition not only to abortion and infanticide, but also capital punishment, and euthanasia. The comment read: "Pro-life people trying to have their own march to counter ours... Just sickening. Stop your slut-shaming and just realize that my uterus will always be greater than your God."
In the first place, many misunderstand the meaning of the term, "pro-life" and believe, quite inaccurately and inappropriately that we pro-life persons are only concerned with restricting a woman's right to choose. Not so. We believe all life is sacred, from conception to natural death. For but one among many examples, we have believed that black lives matter long before it was ever a popular hashtag or advocacy group itself; and we ground that belief in the reality that abortions prevent more black lives from existing each year than any other tragedy.
Second and finally, the oh-so-misinformed commenter believed that the March for Life was a counter to the Women's March. Perhaps before commenting next time, this person ought to do their research. We have been marching for life for more than 40 years.
Regarding the individual's view against "slut-shaming," I opine the following: There exists not a multiplicity of versions of morality. There is but one morality. In truth, Jesus in the Gospels did not "slut-shame" the woman caught in adultery, but saved her from otherwise certain death. However, He did not, nor should we, excuse such behavior that violates the universal morality about which I previously spoke. In that compassion itself, the very sort that Jesus showed for the woman caught in adultery, seeking to defend her life, so also, by His example, do all of us, the pro-life generation seek to defend all life, even ones sorely misguided.
So, I put this back to social media commentary: Jesus, who, for us Christians is God, first defended the life of a person who was being the ancient equivalent of "slut-shamed" and we, pro-life Christians, continue to defend and advocate for life, following God's own example. Who then is greater? The Truth stands for itself.
