The 3 worst lies we tell ourselves

They may be quiet, but they come everytime we drift from God. The Church calls them self-flattery, and they are as old as Satan. The whisper says our sin is minor, that confession can wait and that mercy is automatic. These lies numb and blind our conscience to reality.

The Catechism teaches that sin darkens the intellect and wounds the will. When we sin, we lose clarity. We imagine that God is distant, that justice is soft and that mercy is cheap. But the saints say otherwise.

• St Augustine warns the greatest deception is thinking repentance can be delayed.
• St Alphonsus Liguori writes that the devil’s favorite word is—later.
• St Faustina reveals that mercy is offered now, not someday.

#1 Lie: “We can save ourselves.” While the Church teaches that grace is the beginning of every good act, we cannot climb out of sin by our own strength. Yet, we are not helpless. God offers us bridges for rescue—the sacraments.

• Confession is His door flung open.
• The Eucharist is not a symbol, but the fire that heals.
• Baptism is not a memory. It is an unbreakable covenant with God.

#2 Lie: “God is far away.” Saints say God’s justice is tied to His mercy. St John Paul II writes that mercy is the deepest truth of God’s heart. Wrath is not God’s desire; it is the soul rejecting love. Hell is real. It is chosen, not inflicted.

#3 Lie. “Holiness is for others.” Christ calls every soul to sanctity. The Church does not preach fear, but hope. The sinner is a child, invited home. The sacraments lift, the saints cheer, and Heaven longs for each child of God.

• The Son carries
• The Spirit strengthens
• The Father runs to meet us, prodigals that we are...

So cast away the father of lies and reject delay and complacency. Reject the false comfort of sin. Walk toward the mercy that waits for us. Today is the day of salvation and the day of return. Today is the day of grace.

Christ shows the danger. The Church shows the remedy. And Mercy builds the bridge.

A Prayer for Grace

Lord, break the lies in our mind, and in our souls that do confine.
Sin is never small nor mild, help us stand up as Your child.
Send us Truth to make us see, the path that leads us back to Thee.

We walk in shadows, & think there’s time, pretending faults are tiny crimes.
But You, O Christ, call at night & pull our hearts toward mercy’s light.
No more delay or deceitful dreams, just forgiveness-waves in flowing streams.

O Spirit, lift our stubborn wills, teach our hearts to trust Your will.
Let sacraments be the bridge we cross, from illusion to Your gains--from loss,
Where pride is shattered, and souls are free; holiness can grow indeed.

O kind Father, be our guide, keep self-flattery away, aside.
For we are not meant for hellish flames, nor doom nor sorrow, guilt or shame.
We are children, pursued by love, held by hope from heaven above.

So, lead us back, make us whole. Restore the truth. Anchor souls.
Let mercy, warm dark nights. Let Your virtues give us sight.
And when we rise in search for truth, give us grace, give us You!
