Defending the Faith - Part 3
Our Guardian Angel
Submitted by Thomas Stidl
An incident occurred last week in my life which I will never forget. I was attempting to start a lawn mower when a pebble shot out from under the machine and happened to create a glancing blow to the bottom of my right ear. That caused a stinging pain that lasted about five minutes. Miraculously, I received only a small cut line on the bottom of my ear, and I lost no blood. Checking the ear this morning, there is only a small pin dot where the cut was. I am pleased to see that I am healing that quickly, and I thank Almighty God and my Guardian Angel for the care given to me. I guess that an inch or so in any direction may have dictated a different outcome which may have included a possible trip to an emergency room of a nearby hospital. I am a very grateful human being.
I believe my prayers averted any major problems. I still pray two major prayers to my Guardian Angel along with the prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel daily. Of course, the one that I first pray is the prayer that all of us learned as a child. “Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God's love entrusts me here. Ever this day be at my side, to enlighten and to guard, to rule and to guide. Amen.”
I have also found another prayer for people on a journey. That may sound odd, but, how many times have we heard the phrase that we are all pilgrims on a journey to our heavenly homeland. This prayer gives me a sense of peace and a feeling that I can tackle anything the occurs during the day. Since discovering this prayer, I have added a few words throughout the years. I would like to share that prayer with you now.
Almighty and merciful God, You have commissioned your angels to guide and protect us. Command them to be our careful companions, from our setting out until our return, to clothe us with their invisible protection; to keep us from all dangers from collisions, from fires, from explosions, from falls, and from bruises, (add your special petitions here), and finally having preserved us from all evils, and especially from all sins, to guide us to our heavenly home. Through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior in the unity of God the Father and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Pray this prayer daily in the morning and may God's angelic protection be with you throughout each and every day until you reach your heavenly home.
Until next time, Laus Tibi, Christe. Laus Deo. Deo Gratias. See you in
Paradise. Amen.
