What Are Those Traits That Jesus Favors In Certain People? Do We Have Them?

The Catholic Bible tells us that the three Apostles who were in Jesus’ “inner circle” were Peter, James, and John. It was only those three who were invited up to the mountain and witnessed the transfiguration. It was Jesus’ close friend Lazarus, whom Jesus brought back to life after he died; he was a close friend to Jesus.

This information may lead many of us to wonder how Jesus views us, and whether or not Jesus views us as a “favorite” person. The answer to that question is an easy one to answer. Jesus did not view anyone as “special.” However, Jesus felt close to those who exemplified traits that He favored in His people.

Compassion and Empathy: Jesus was deeply moved by the suffering of others and responded to those who showed compassion. For example, He healed the sick, comforted the marginalized, and wept over the loss of loved ones (Mark 1:41) and (John 11:35). People who demonstrated kindness, care, and concern for others often found His attention and blessing.

Humility and Servanthood: Jesus Himself was the ultimate servant, teaching that greatness comes through service (Mark:10-45). He favored those who served others without seeking personal gain, such as the disciples who did the washing of the feet (John: 13-4-5). His own humility made Him approachable and relatable, drawing people who valued selflessness.
Forgiveness and Mercy: Jesus often responded to those who forgave others or showed mercy. On the cross, He prayed for His persecutors, saying, “Father, forgive them” (Luke: 23-34). His own forgiving nature made Him especially close to those who forgave others, even when it was difficult.
 Faith and Commitment: Jesus was committed to His mission and those who remained faithful. He often responded to people who trusted Him, even in difficult circumstances, such as the disciples who followed Him despite opposition (Mark: 14-27). His own steadfastness drew those who were also committed to God’s will.
Approachability and Genuine Interest: Jesus did not have an aloof or superior attitude. He welcomed people of all ages and backgrounds, sensing their personal needs and responding to them (John 11:5; Luke 2:51). Those who approached Him with sincerity and openness often found His favor.
Patience and Persistence: Jesus showed patience with those who struggled to follow His example, repeating His teachings until they understood (Luke: 24: 44-45). He favored those who persisted in seeking truth and growth, even when it was slow.
 

Summary: While the Bible does not list a formal “favor list” for Jesus, His actions and words show that He was especially drawn to people who exhibited compassion, humility, forgiveness, faithfulness, approachability, and patience. These traits aligned with His own character, making them qualities that often brought Him closer to individuals and communities.
