Examen and Consolations: Prayer Opens Our Eyes
(477 words, 3 minutes read time.)
? A Past Meditation ?
Written in the past and newly restored.
I gazed upon Our Lord standing in the Praetorium before Pilate, just condemned to death. He was covered in gashes, clothed in a purple cloak, and crowned with thorns upon His precious Head. His Head was bowed, His eyes filled with grief, terror, and tears.
The look in Your eyes compelled my heart with pity, Lord. I did this to You by my sins. Sorrow for my sins fills my heart, along with compassion for all You suffered to save me, my dear Savior. I should have received that sentence of death, but You took my place. Only You could set me free from eternal separation. O, what unutterable, unending torment that would have been!
Yet I sense something more here, Lord. You not only suffered for me—you suffered with me when I, too, was wounded by others and filled with terror and grief. How completely You knew my suffering. My Crucified Savior and my Sorrowful Mother, You stood beside me, weeping with me in my sufferings. Your Hearts were one with mine.
And today, Your Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary remain near me, gently bringing healing to all my wounds, that I may be free in You, Lord—free to walk with You, free to love, free to serve, free to fulfill the mission and purpose for which You created me, and free to answer Your call to holiness.
Lord, help each of us, Your beloved children, receive the healing and full flowering of grace that You desire for us. You permitted many wounds along our journey, yet You never desired us to cling to them. You call us to surrender them to You, unite them with Your Cross, and receive Your healing love.
Teach us to place every broken piece into Your Hands and allow You to love us in every wounded place. Reveal to us the depth of Your compassion and the transforming power of Your healing love.
I desire to be free, Lord. We all long to be free.
Lead us, Lord. Lead us.
May deeper and deeper healing unfold along this journey of holiness. Hold my hand every step of the way, and never let me leave Your side. Wipe away my every tear.
Amen.
