2027 World Youth Day: A Soul to Seoul Itinerary

Seoul, Korea—August 3–8, 2027 AD

Step into the biggest Catholic youth gathering in the world. For many, this is our first time leaving home, traveling without parents, or personally deciding to seek God. The below itinerary was built for several reasons.

• To walk us through each day: gently, clearly and confidently
• To help us discover our courage in Christ
• To prepare us to be with millions of teen Catholics, learning to trust Him too.
• To recruit chaperones as catalysts for miraculous conversions.

Day 1: Arrive in South Korea

We step off the plane into a city glowing with color and movement. Seoul’s air smells faintly of roasted chestnuts and street-grilled meats, drifting from vendors outside the terminal. Volunteers greet us with warm smiles and bright signs in many languages. We check in with our group leader, grab our WYD badges, and exhale through the jet lag. Tonight is simple: settle into lodging, meet in our small groups and share names before a short night prayer. We are not alone. God is already guiding our steps!

Day 2: Opening Ceremony

Morning begins with breakfast and a short walk to the gathering site. We try gyeran-ppang, a warm Korean egg bread that smells of sweet toast and creamy custard melting together. As the steam rises and warms our hands, we hear music, drums, cheers, and languages from every continent. Today is rally day with breakout sessions. The crowds are thick as we carry our country’s flag toward our assigned bleachers to wait for Papa Leo. The Pope arrives, and the crowd erupts. Something shifts that destroys fear. This is belonging. We are the: one, holy, catholic and apostolic body of Christ. This massive, global movement, reminds us that courage grows when shared. Take that, Satan!

Day 3: Catechesis and Culture

We attend a morning catechesis session led by a bishop who challenges hearts. His voice is calm and steady, like a reassuring hand on our shoulder. He talks about courage, faith, and choosing Christ in a noisy world. We take notes, not because we must, but journaling helps us remember consolations—to save for a rainy day. The afternoon brings cultural events: K-pop-style praise concerts with a heart-beating bass we can feel in our souls. There is traditional Korean dance with silk costumes that shimmer and edifying testimonies from teens who found God in the most unexpected places—trauma. We are all broken, and Jesus waits for us in our pain. Who knew?!

Day 4: Way of the Cross

Today we honor all suffering: ours united with His. This feels different as we all carry our crosses together, only His is visible. As the Stations of the Cross move through the streets of Seoul, we walk with thousands, each carrying our own struggles. Incense drifts through the air, mixing with the scent of a light rain to soothe the sorrow.

“Take courage! I have overcome the world,” John (16:33)

As Christ’s and our journeys unfold together, our burdens lighten. We realize courage is easier when shared. Courage is choosing to walk with Christ even when life feels heavy. When we stop fighting life and surrender to Him—everything is possible!

Day 5: Vigil with the Pope

We travel to the vigil site, a massive field under the open sky. As night falls, candles flicker like stars, and the soft glow paints our faces gold. The Pope speaks about Christ’s victory over fear. His words are a brightly burning bonfire into the quiet corners of our hearts. When the crowd kneels in adoration to Eucharistic Sacred Heart of Jesus, we kneel too. For the first time, we feel God not just around us, but within us. Tonight is the turning point. Who doesn’t want to be loved? All we have to do is let Him love us!

Day 6: Closing Mass

Morning sunlight washes over millions of pilgrims. The Mass begins, and we realize we are part of something eternal. Along with the angels, our voices rise like a river of sound, flowing through the crowd and lifting our spirits. Too soon, the final blessing is given, and we are sent to “Go Make Disciples.” Refreshed and nourished, our spirit feels ready to return home—but not as the same people. We want to be saints, some even choosing the same Confirmation saints to keep us holy! Time for goodbyes. Through tears and hugs, cell numbers are exchanged as “accountability coaches.” God-willing, we will see each other in heaven!

We’ve never traveled far from home, never walked a road unknown,
Yet something in us starts to rise—a holy fire, a new sunrise.
We feel Your whisper in the noise, calling us to brave new joys.

You lift our eyes from where we’ve been and breathe Your courage deep within.
So here we are, unsure but blessed, ready to answer with our yes.
Yes, to the journey, yes to the call, yes to the courage that conquers all.

Yes, to the city’s glowing sights, yes to the vigil’s candlelight.
Yes, to the Mass at break of day, yes to the grace along the way.
Prepare our hearts to make them new in Seoul our soul, to melt in You.
