An essay from Michael

     Michael is 9 years old. He has a strong name, Michael . He exudes strength. Just like Saint Michael the Archangel does. Michael's desire to love God is exemplary. It's so wonderful to get a child's perspective of who God is and what their Faith means to them. They always pull through with amazing results. Just in the Gospel yesterday, Jesus asks His disciples, "who do you say that I am?" Peter, out of all of the Apostles is led by the Holy Spirit. Led by God, to answer, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God". Asking children to answer this question is probably, I believe, how Jesus felt when He asked His loyal followers this question. Michael, my little friend, was asked that question. Here's what he said. 

     God and me and my relationship with God.  It means everything to me. My Faith means everything to me. Because, it helps me trust in God with all my heart, soul and mind. I believe God loves me, created me and made me in His perfect image. Because of this, I know I can turn to Him when I need help, comfort and guidance. My relationship with God reminds me to make good choices each day. Even when it is not always easy. It also helps me remember that God knows what is in my heart and sees the things I do. He knows when I have made good choices and when I need to do better. Just like knowing when someone has been naughty or nice. Faith gives me Hope, Strength and Peace, because I know God is always with me. This is what my Faith means to me.     By Michael Costello. Age 9. 

     Hearing a child speak these words, tells us he is being taught well. His parents are guiding him along the narrow path. A path that someday may be filled with thorns or difficult choices. But his Faith will prevail. His parents, John and Myra are his life guides. Led by the Holy Spirit that dwells within them. Therefore, relaying the purpose of having children. To be their guides, their mentors, their teachers. To be taught to Love and Honor God. Surely, as you can see, they are doing just that. Michael and his sisters will grow. Amid the snares and temptations of this world. But they will know one thing. That Faith is a gift. A gift given by God to his parents and then the gift given to him by them. 

     Teach Faith. It's from above. "

     "Who do you say that I am?". I know Michael knows.....
