INCREASING OUR TRUST IN GOD
Listening to a Medical Specialist involved in the science of Alzheimer’s disease recently, I was stunned to hear that this disease, for the most part, is preventable. I believe, “God helps those who help themselves (and others). Unable to capture the total Show by this expert word for word, and not being a specialist involved in science or Alzheimer’s, I will share with you what was important for all of us to know and why.
Amyloids are abnormal, misfolded proteins that clump together to form rigid, microscopic fibers called fibrils. In a healthy body, proteins fold into specific shapes to perform their jobs, and the body naturally breaks down and clears away any damaged ones. With amyloids, these misshapen proteins become sticky, insoluble, and highly resistant to breaking down, and they gradually build up inside or around tissues, disrupting normal organ functions. This can become a problem throughout our circulatory system, including our carotid arteries. High cholesterol of the “bad” type, with a low (HDL) that is the good type of cholesterol, can also contribute to vascular problems. High triglyceride levels can be another factor for concern. So too is a large waistline or a large stomach. A waistline of over 40” in men, and over 35” in women constitutes abdominal obesity. High blood pressure of more than 130/85 and taking medication also can set the stage for developing Alzheimer’s later in life. Some, however, show beginning signs of Alzheimer’s as young as in the early fifties. Other factors include High triglycerides and type 2 diabetes.
One does not need to be a doctor to recognize that several of these risks are associated with poor nutrition and usually precede what is known as Metabolic syndrome.” Metabolic syndrome has been recognized as a condition associated with Alzheimer’s.
There are about 4 different types of Alzheimer’s disease; all require correct diagnosis. This is a disease from which no one recovers. Medicine, in some cases, may delay progression, yet there is no hope for a cure at this time.
Metabolic syndrome is a group of risk factors—including high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess belly fat, and abnormal cholesterol levels—that occur together. Having at least three of these conditions greatly increases your risk of developing heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. Metabolic syndrome is a group of five conditions that can lead to heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and other health problems.

God – We can pray to God for the determination and focus to help us to remain focused on health and how to prevent disease.
