Breaking bondages
Have you ever ran around with the fly swatter, trying to kill that pesky fly that is faster than lightning, only to miss your chance, for what seems like the hundredth time to bring him to his demise? I have. They test you. They fly right past you with the grin on their face because of your efforts to think you are faster than they are. The constant fleeting and buzzing enhances your efforts and you make it your goal to bring their life to an end. Finally your efforts pay off and you catch them off guard and then splat. You got it.
I started thinking. Why am I not as vigilant at trying to destroy those constant flies of gossip or anger or impatience that seem to be always buzzing around me? If I were as true to my quest to destroy them as I am in my efforts to destroy those flies that buzz around, I'd be set for victory.
I was so curious about the purpose of the fly, that I googled that very question and was quite surprised at the answer. Knowing that they must have a purpose or God never would have created them. Here's what Google said.
"Flies serve a critical ecological purpose by acting as decomposers, pollinators, predators, and a vital food source for other animals. That made sense to me. Of course our Lord would create them for a purpose. Yes, they are annoying. Yes, they can ruin picnics or disturb your sleep, but their purpose has been overlooked and in a way , disrespected.
Now I'm not saying we should open our doors to the pesky little rascals, but at least think of their real purpose and try to shoo them to the open air of the outside to let them fulfill their purpose. We all have a purpose and thankfully, so do they. God created all things. As the saying goes, "all creatures great and small". He had a purpose. The purpose to recognize that all humans and creatures are to promote life and tolerance among each other so that each is recognized in their own purpose. Everything and everyone working in unison. I know plenty of human beings who are annoying and I'd like to give them a SWAT with the fly swatter. But I don't. Because they must have a purpose for their existence. Shooing them to a closer relationship with Jesus or just even tolerating them, is our purpose. Loving them no matter what. Keeping our souls a buzz with the self of Jesus. Flying around spreading kindness and love. That is our purpose.
So the next time you go to grab that fly swatter, just try to push them toward the door, back into the world. There, they have found their purpose and so will have you.
