Industrious Family Films’ most recent short film may be coming to a theater near you!
End of the Santa Fe Trail begins the true story of Servant of God Sister Blandina Segale and her encounters with Billy the Kid. This film will become the first episode of a multiple-part series covering Sister Blandina’s adventures in the Wild West.
Although growing in popularity now that she is ascending the steps to canonization, the story of Sister Blandina is a lesser known one. Being sent from her home in Italy to Trinidad, Colorado at the young age of 22, Sister Blandina embraced the Wild West as her mission land. Here she not only taught Indian children at the pioneer school, but also saw the more grisly side of our expanding nation. She met and had conversations with the notorious outlaw Billy the Kid not only once but on many occasions.
The family behind the film studio, like many other homeschool families, first read this story in Seton Home Study School’s series, the Faith and Freedom Readers. In a quick and concise story, a young girl catches a glimpse of Sister Blandina while traveling West. Her fellow travelers are surprised that she does not know who Sister Blandina is and share two memorable stories of the brave nun.
First there’s the time when Sister Blandina stood up to Billy the Kid and saved four doctors in Trinidad. Then, of course, the time that Billy held up the stage coach but then let them pass on when he realized that Sister Blandina was in the company.
The first of these stories is covered by this maiden episode of Industrious Family’s mini-series. Moving on from the inspiration of Faith and Freedom Readers, Industrious Family is exploring the rest of Sister Blandina’s story in her diary, At the End of the Santa Fe Trail, and are eager to bring the many fascinating stories from this remarkable Sister of Charity’s life to the screen!
