Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh, Gifts of the Wise Men
At times, there are Catholic group meetings for socializing and sharing their Catholic upbringings and religious understandings regarding our Catholic faith. A discussion that can arise is our understanding of God. With my philosophical hat on, I must approach this topic with the most common sense that applies to most of us.
For example; we can ask ourselves, “How can there be three persons in One God?” Or “How is it that God “Is”, always was, and always will be?” At times, we may even find it difficult to grasp how God would allow violence and wars to kill babies in their cribs. How can we as intelligent people understand the ways of God?
To answer that, I can only offer words that make sense, an understanding most of us can relate to: We cannot understand God; we are creatures created by Him. We know only what we have learned about Him through our Bible. And that tells us He loves us, is merciful and forgiving, and desires that we spend eternity with Him in heaven. Know about Him, and in accepting our faith, we mature spiritually and acknowledge that faith is built upon trust.
The death of children, violence, and wars have never been God’s will, but ours. God gave each of us free will to make the right choice and choose Him over earthly desires and choices. People cause wars and violence and go astray by choosing the temptations created by Satan. In faith, we must believe that God is there, on the other side, to instantly take those little innocent children who have been murdered, into His arms and carried to heaven where they will have no memory of what evil happened to them. God has always wanted what is best for us. It is we who must ALWAYS practice using our will to do what is right, to choose good over evil. When we focus on God, we will always choose good over evil, and it is then that God showers us with wisdom, understanding, discernment, tolerance, and more.
