Hate is not your friend. It will only destroy you.
Are we living a life with purpose? Many of us live with a purpose to get done whatever pops up. That is not a purpose. That is merely responding to our circumstances. No, a purpose will lead our life and what we do. And following the ultimate purpose with give us a full life.
First, we must stop and seriously think about our purpose. Give it more than a moment or two. Then, we must think about if we are actually letting that purpose lead our life. It should be something that we consider with every decision that we make. Disregarding our purpose for any decision, leaves us with a diminished purpose and a diminished life.
Now, is there an ultimate purpose? If there is, it should be everyone’s purpose and thus it should affect every decision that each of us makes. The ultimate purpose is “to know and love God.” It’s not my interpretation of the ultimate purpose. I have no authority to determine the ultimate purpose in life. I take that from the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
So, why would this be the ultimate purpose? If the God that created you loved you beyond any love we can imagine, knowing that love is very important. Also, responding to that love with love would be the ultimate response. An exchange of love for love. An unending and forever fulfilling relationship that makes everything else look trivial.
However, everything else is not trivial. Everything else is how we fulfill the ultimate purpose. If you don’t know that you are loved infinitely by the infinite Creator, learning that should drive your decisions. Counting the ways God loves you becomes very important.
Once we know of God’s love, even if we don’t understand the fullness of God’s love for us, we should look to respond to God’s love in what we do every day. Did I promise to God to love a spouse for the rest of my life? I better live that out to show my love for God. Even how I respond to the drive thru clerk is an opportunity to show God my love for Him. After all, the drive thru clerk (and every other person) is the living image and likeness of that God who loves us.
If we live a life with the ultimate purpose in mind, oh what a life it will be. God can give us the grace to live out the ultimate purpose no matter how many times we fail. Thank you God and please help us to live out the ultimate purpose.
