How Narrow the Road that Leads to Life
What? Who do you think God sent to his people when they called?
Do you remember when this or that particular person that you really love spoke out saying how they needed just a morsel of bread or a lot of money to survive? Your response was to call on God and he will answer your needs?
I can recall when my wife told me one of our daughters was in a crisis and I should reach out to our Lord with a request for help. No sooner did I speak to the Lord and he directly told me to help her myself. “I am sending you with the resources you already have and this is my answer to that plea.”
It isn’t as though God refuses to assist our needs but we must remember that we are his hands and the ability to take care of more than we might want to admit. When Joshua faced the city of Jericho he raised his eyes and saw one who stood facing him, drawn sword in hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you one of of our enemies ?” He replied, “Neither.? I am the captain of the host of the Lord and I have just arrived.” Summoning the priests, Joshua, son of Nun, then ordered them to take up the ark of the covenant with seven of the priests carrying the rams’ horns in front of the ark of the Lord. On the seventh day, beginning at daybreak, they marched around the city seven times in the same manner; on that day only did they march around the city seven times. The seventh time around, the priests blew the horns and Joshua said to the people, “Now shout, for the Lord has given you the city.” As the horns blew, the people began to shout. When they heard the signal horn, they raised a tremendous shout. The wall collapsed, and the people stormed the city in a frontal attack and took it. (Jos 5: 13 - 14, 6: 6, 15 - 16, 20).
This is exactly how we may look upon our prayers when a serious need presents itself. We may not have an angel directing us, but the Holy Spirit certainly is with us and the ramparts that appear to be blocking our attack on the problems that confront us and those we are praying for will also collapse if indeed they are against the needs that God has sent us.
Here is the quest that God has allotted to each of us; when there is something we believe that is not possible, look again and see that the Lord has already called us to handle more than we think is possible.
Remember what the Lord said to Jeremiah; “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you.” (Jer 1: 5).
