Third Anniversary of Dobbs’ Decision
This Fall, the Colorado ballot will include three common-sense Propositions that address protections for children that almost no voters are familiar with. Over 120,000 signatures had to be obtained for each to put these issues on the ballot for Coloradans to vote on. 80% of those reading the initiatives signed them. But to become law, at least 50% of voters must vote YES on them this Fall. The initiatives appear on the ballot as Propositions 133, 134, and 135. They address sentencing for child sex trafficking, preventing biological males from competing against girls in school sports, and preventing sex-change surgery on minors in Colorado.
Proposition 133 - The Children Are Not for Sale Act says “Current penalties in Colorado law with parole possible in as little as eight years have failed to adequately deter the human trafficking of minor children” (tinyurl.com/ballotquotes). This initiative changes the penalty to life imprisonment without parole. Colorado ranks 13th nationally for the total number of trafficking crimes. In 2025, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation tracked 87 cases of sex trafficking crimes, with “roughly two-thirds of the statewide victims since 2008 being under the age of 18” (tinyurl.com/colosextraffic).
Proposition 134 - The Protect Girls Sports Act prevents biological males from competing in girls' school sports. On March 9, 2026, Legislative Democrats refused to support the “Protect Female Sports Act” when HB26-1083 came before a House committee. All eight Democrats on the committee voted “NO” on that proposed Act, while all three Republicans voted “YES” (tinyurl.com/HB1083committeevote). I gave testimony for that Bill and pointed out that the same wording was being put before voters in front of grocery stores as a citizen initiative, with 80% signing. I was ordered by the chair to say nothing about citizen initiatives (tinyurl.com/testimonyHB1083, timestamp 7:59:45). That Democratic committee chair was willing to suppress facts during testimony to ensure other committee members would not be swayed to vote in favor of protecting girls' sports in light of its overwhelming support by citizen initiative signers.
Proposition 135 -The Protect Kids from Irreversible Sex-Change Surgery Act aims to prevent surgeries for minors in response to their perception of sex or gender. In the years 2016 to 2020 3,678 children in the U.S. underwent gender-change surgery, with 3,215 (87%) being breast removals on girls (tinyurl.com/3215breastremovals). This begs the question: Why are we subjecting young minor girls with healthy bodies to mutilating procedures instead of addressing their mental health issues?” Proposition 135 would reverse three laws advocating sex-change “care” passed by Democrats in the 2026 Legislative session. Those Laws are HB26-1322, 1141, and 1309.
HB26-1322 promotes civil actions against licensed mental-health professionals for certain gender-identity change efforts (tinyurl.com/2026billreview). Democrats passed this law to circumvent the U.S. Supreme Court's March 31, 2026, decision in Chiles v. Salazar, which held that Colorado's law, as applied to the talk therapy at issue, failed under strict First Amendment scrutiny. HB-1141 defines any speech in a school that opposes gender identity/expression as acts of discrimination. It applies to public and private/religious schools, violating freedom of speech and religion in the same law.
Two Calls to Action: First, please vote YES on Propositions 133, 134, and 135. Secondly, be aware that not a single one of the 66 Democrats in the Colorado Legislature voted against the three bills advocating sex-change surgery on minors. They voted in lockstep against measures that protect Colorado children and in favor of measures that hurt and even mutilate children. Please vote for Republicans in all legislative races this fall to prevent Democrats from continuing to pass harmful bills.
