Christmas Stocking Stuffers
Kurt Warner is a story that featured much struggle for him to get to the professional level of sports. Yet, he became an unlikely top-rated Quarterback in the NFL. The story of his journey to the NFL was portrayed in American Underdog.
The movie highlights Warner’s unlikely journey to becoming an NFL superstar. Zachary Levi starred as Warner with many familiar faces that anchor a cast including Dennis Quaid as Dick Vermeil, Bruce McGill, and Anna Paquin.
The film highlights Warner’s college playing days, struggle to make the NFL, working night shift at a grocery store, and eventually getting his shot to make the NFL thanks to his rise in stardom through the Arena Football League. Warner is a devout Christian, and the film does his faith justice in how it helped him achieve his childhood dream.
Trials Transform into Evangelization
Warner had to work hard on making to where he wanted to be. He relied on his faith to help him overcome the tribulations of his life. In one example, he was a father figure to help Brenda and his children who were struggling. When he won Super Bowl XXXIV over the Titans to cap off his rookie season, his words were “Thank you, Jesus”. He would utter the same words when inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame.
Warner wasn’t competing to break records. Rather, he used his playing career for the glory of God.
Give Credit Where It’s Due
Warner credited everything to Christ. He teaches us to do the same in everything that we do in life. As Blessed Solanus Casey reminds us, “Thank God in advance”.
Underdogs Are Hungry
Warner can be seen as a modern-day underdog in sports. He beat everything to get to where he needed. Underdogs are hungry for more and will work hard to get what they want or where they need to be.
American Underdog is a great family film for everyone who loves football and the faithful witness of a Christian.
This film gets a 4.5 out of 5.
