2/7 — Listening with the Heart
(374 words, 2 minutes read time.)
** A Past Meditation **
Written in the past and newly restored.
When I enter the Adoration chapel,
do I truly believe that Jesus is present before me?
Do I come with the faith of a little child,
trusting that the Lord of Heaven and earth quietly waits for me in the Blessed Sacrament?
Do I remember that while He desires to purify and transform me throughout my life,
He also loves me completely in this very moment?
Do I allow myself simply to rest in His loving gaze?
Do I believe that as I look upon Him,
He is looking upon me with even greater love?
Do I remain only in reading,
or do I prayerfully ponder a few words of Scripture before turning my heart toward Jesus in loving conversation?
Do I leave room for silence,
allowing Him to speak in the quiet of my heart?
Am I attentive to the gentle movements of His grace—
an inspiration,
a desire for greater holiness,
sorrow for sin,
the need to forgive,
an invitation to trust more deeply,
a call to serve,
a new understanding of His love,
or the strength to carry today’s cross?
Do I ask Him to pour out every grace He desires to give—
not only for myself,
but also for those who have asked for my prayers,
for those most in need of His mercy,
and for the salvation of souls?
Faithful time spent before the Blessed Sacrament gradually changes us.
The more we come to know the Heart of Christ,
the more our own hearts begin to resemble His.
Lord,
teach me simply to remain with You.
May I never hurry through Your Presence,
but learn to rest in Your love,
listen for Your voice,
and leave each hour of Adoration
more deeply united to Your Sacred Heart.
Amen.
Stay tuned for three more reflections in this series!
A Moment for Reflection:
When I come before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, do I allow myself simply to remain beneath His loving gaze—or do I fill the silence because I am afraid to rest and be loved?
