Stations of the Cross (8)
I came across some encouraging words from Cardinal Robert Sarah, and wanted to share them with you.
They remind us that, just as with the parable of the wheat and the weeds, so the history of the Church is built on both good and bad popes, and in spite of this, God STILL finds a way of accomplishing His purposes. For that reason, we should not let the “black thread” of the bad ones make us lose heart or weaken our faith.
“Let us not be afraid! Let us listen to Jesus:
‘You are Simon… you shall be called Peter.’ (John 1:42)
From those first hours, the fabric of the Church has been woven with the golden thread of the infallible decisions of the pontiffs, the successors of Peter, and the black thread of the human, imperfect acts of the popes, successors of Simon.
In this incomprehensible overlapping of intertwined threads, we sense the little needle guided by the invisible hand of God, intent on tracing onto the fabric the only name by which we can be saved — the name of Jesus Christ!” (Cardinal Robert Sarah)
In other words, the way to navigate these times of confusion is to keep our gaze focused intently on Our Lord, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
And if we have ANY doubts about something the Pope, or the bishops, are saying or doing, all we have to do is ask:
What does Scripture say?
What does Sacred Tradition say?
What does the Catechism say?
What do the Doctors of the Church say?
What do the great Councils say?
What do the great saints say?
These sources contain the unchangeable Deposit of Faith that EVERY Pope is charged by divine commission to proclaim and defend, and NO Pope, no matter how corrupt or confused, can ever change.
Remember:
Whatever is GOOD… is NOT new;
Whatever is NEW… is NOT good.
God bless you… Joey
