Day 4 - Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Yesterday wasn't so kind to me. Or should I rather say, I wasn't so kind to yesterday. All day long, starting from the get-go, I struggled. First I dropped my favorite coffee cup in the sink, breaking off the handle. Then it started not just raining, but "pouring" rain with me knowing I would have to get out while driving. My schedule seemed rushed and full of mania with a time clock on it that kept me running to meet my schedule that I was already feeling beaten by as the minutes went on. I was already feeling tired by 1:00 p.m. and felt like what was becoming a cold, coming on. With each little mishap or delay, I tried my best to offer it up to God and ask Him to forgive my demeanor, especially after each recurring event. The more I prayed, the guiltier I felt. I got no relief at not surrendering completely. Still thinking in my mind that I could do it. Thinking lightning bolts of strength we're going to punch down from Heaven and make me feel better, or at least give me the amount of time and comfort I needed to get everything done. But they didn't. Instead, stuff just kept happening. My patience was wearing thin, and in my silence (except for yelling at the car in front of me to "go"), I'm sure all could feel it and that made me even more down. I think it was getting to me so bad because it was happening on a day I was so looking forward to. A day, where the night before, I was like a little child, waiting to rise in the morning to open my Christmas presents. But it wasn't like that at all. Like I said, from the get-go of the day
Well, needless to say, my day ended with my half shut eyes, ready for it to end, when the recollection of that day was met with words of Love from my Lord. He said, ", the cup can be fixed, you got all of your work done, you met your deadlines, the rain subsided. You survived everything ". Then I remembered the beautiful rainbow I saw in the sky. I remembered, that not even with words, my God was comforting me and assuring me that He had never ever left me at all. I was just too busy being grumpy and playing the "Poor Poor pitiful me" song in my head to recognize Him.
While I was thinking about the day I asked Him, " why do you love me so much? How could you still want me as your child after constantly acting so stubborn and feisty and disobedient? " I'll tell you why. Because His Love is like that beautiful rainbow I saw in the sky. It goes from beginning to end. With radiant colors to paint the skies with obvious evidence of His presence. Shaped in an arch. Fading slowly into my soul where He can remain forever, with my eyes and heart always remembering this testimony of Love. He is always at my side. He knocks on the door without a latch. I just have to remember to open it.
