A life without purpose is no life at all.
Well, to say there is a beginning of self-giving love is a bit misleading, but we can talk about where its origin. Self-giving love originates in the Trinity. The three Persons of the Trinity have a self-giving love towards each other. So much so that they wanted more to love, and so creation.
We know the Trinity is the family terms that Jesus taught us. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirt, which literally means Holy Breath. The first family ever was God. In this family, self-giving love was manifest. And so all families are called to manifest self-giving love. After all, we are created in God’s image and likeness.
No human family manifested this self-giving love better than the Holy Family. Although, they did have a big advantage having one of the Persons of the Trinity as a member of their family. God’s self-giving love was not limited to the Trinity, nor was it limited to the Holy Family. It was not limited to the perfect, but even us sinners. You see, self-giving love has no limits as God has no limits.
This self-giving love from the Trinity was shown to us best on the Cross. There, Jesus gave Himself completely for the sinners, both repentant and unrepentant. His self-giving love did not come with strings attached. There were no conditions for His love. Now, responding with love to this self-giving love is our choice. And with that, we choose our eternal destiny.
