Communism, Fascism, and Liberal and Conservative Christianity in the Bible, and the Alabaster Jar of Anti-Sacramental Mystery
Who are your Heroes?
The Pope Benedict some time ago chastised Christian parents for naming their children after modern celebrities. I was just thinking of what Alice Von Hildebrandt was remarking several years ago, how society's heroes have digressed over the last thousand years:
In the Middle Ages, the heroes of common men and women were Catholic saints.
In the Protestant Rebellion, their heroes were so-called Reformers (Luther, Calvin, etc).
In the first part of Enlightenment, the heroes were deists and rationalists, who prided themselvess on arguing what is true of religion independent of any claimed Revelation and Intervention.
In the latter part of the Enlightenment, the heroes became scientists, psychologists, and worldly philosophers.
And in the modern secular apostasy, the heroes are sports figures, actors and actresses, and raunchy, worldly musicians.
This just goes to show that spiritual denigration also denigrates who one admires.
