Prayer without Results?
To enumerate or even consider the many descriptions of the Essence of Almighty God would be an insurmountable task within the scope of man’s finite mind. It isn’t something we can just sit down and begin to list within our human ability of describing entities beyond our own conception of existence.
For instance; the science of astronomy is just beginning to grasp the vastness of the universe without even understanding the real factors involved with the unfolding of space and time as we know it. Yet, as time moves forward man’s seeking to explore and touch worlds beyond our planet earth may someday reveal a little of the unseen, unknown, and perhaps find the reachable stretches of outer space.
It isn’t as though man may not reach out or is incapable of touching the unknown. It just will take time within the capacity of man’s finiteness to search and explore even the deep persona of his own mind and intelligence and begin to incorporate the Power of God’s Holy Spirit before man himself will ever find the answers to so many hidden mysteries that God will allow the human spirit to understand.
Mysteries are part of our journey to seek God in the limited capacity of man’s ability to reach beyond himself and believe he understands all the mysteries of God. One thing is certain, most if not all mysteries in God’s Realm will never be understood, but those that are allowable by God may, with God’s complete guidance and inspiration, reveal to us an essence never before realized.
This then brings us to the theme of The Essence of God. A question arose during a group meeting as to what His Essence is all about. How can we understand or know what His essence means to us? How deep is the very knowledge of God and how should we approach the mysterious intelligence and omnipotence that is found in God?
Perhaps, as one woman stated; “We should pray more closely with God and seek His gifts of love and peace” and “Give God more credit for each and every day that He continually watches over us and those we pray for.” No doubt, these are some of the ways man can begin to fit in with God’s Plan to share His Life and Love with us (see Col. 1:26). She also said; “the last time I went to confession I felt God had touched me in a way maybe never felt before, and my whole demeanor appeared to change before my eyes.” This is God’s Grace and an example of His Very Essence! Also, the Sacrament of Penance brings Sanctifying Grace. She went on to explain the day of her husband’s funeral she attended the 8 am Mass and then the Funeral Mass at 10 AM. She was walking on a cloud. Again, God’s Grace and another example of God’s Essence.
Suppose you were reading a novel and there was no conclusion which would allow you to put the book down, as in an Alfred Hitchcock production, where you must make the final determination to solve a mystery. Now, insert here the story of humanity, life and death realities, your physical body and your immortal soul. What happens when the final chapter of our human existence ceases to be and the soul leaves, in an instant, to reach eternity in God’s Realm to an eye-opening (metaphorically speaking) occurrence. Something new to the finite mind of man and a profound fulfillment of God’s Promise of eternal life. We shall now begin to experience the essence of an eternal happening, saints and mystics prayed to be part of, God’s chosen believers hoped for, and all who never gave up realizing the very power of Almighty God in His pleasure to share His Life and Love with man. See Col. 1:26; “The Mystery of the Church.” All of this can be found in the Essence of God and His Love for us.
Following the Most Holy Week of the Paschal Mystery, and the Easter Season, we are able to discern, in a plausible manner, the existence of God, His Risen Christ, and a view to our future Resurrection as He Ascends in 50 days to His Father’s Side. His Holy Spirit will become our teacher, sanctifier, and the extreme essence of Christ’s Presence on earth. This in itself is an essence we must believe in, partake of, and teach to those coming behind us.
You may be certain God’s Essence comes through in Sanctifying Grace, Sacraments, and Prayer. Without being touched by God’s Grace and realizing the Power of The Holy Spirit constantly being with us, man will never reach or understand what God’s Essence truly is.
