Is Communion in the hand eroding the Faith in the United States?
It is pretty simple actually, and all laid out right before our eyes. It all has been since the very beginning too. The beginning of what, you might ask? Well, from the beginning of everything. You see, God is our Creator, he made us for him, so that he could love us and we could be with him enveloped in his eternal beatitude and glory for all time. That was always the plan, for each and every one of us. God loves us so much, and desires us so much, but he wants us to choose him freely. He doesn’t want to strong arm us into a relationship with him. He wants us to love him for whom he is and what he is, God, our Father, the All Knowing, Almighty, and Omnipotent Supreme One of this entire universe. The creator of everything that is, was, and will be. So, why in the world would anyone not love that? It is a very serious question? We most certainly seem to love things that are much less, and infinitely more base and small. We seem to revel in the exact opposite of all that is God.
And we have since the beginning. It really all started before our existence. It seems to have surfaced with the angels, when a third of them fell from Grace and were banished from the love of God and the servitude of his desires, in lieu of their own visions, wants and wills. Well, we see what that has gotten all of them, don’t we? The fallen are angels, or demons, full of hatred and darkness, vileness and evil. In the pursuit of their own omnipotence, they have gained despair and hopelessness and a wickedness that knows no bounds. The same will happen to us, and does when we do the same as they have. The old adage that misery loves company, really is true, and is born in the heart of Satan and his army of demons as they plunder this Earth in pursuit of as many Souls they can unite to their misery as possible.
For some reason we gravitate in this direction. It could be that the path of least resistance really is the highway to Hell. You can see it in the eyes of those who succumb to the lust for these desires. It is far easier to give in to the desires of the flesh and material will than it is to esteem to the spiritual and holy. The battle being waged for our souls is a fierce one indeed, and one that many of us seem oblivious to. We deny the existence of the world that was truly created for us. There is another more visceral world that has been discovered and embraced by the Saints who have gone before us. We live within it, a world that is hidden among the muck and dirt that tarnishes the beauty and bounty that exists in abundance all around us every day.
God has called us to this abundant, obscured life of true beauty and abundance that is found in the Grace he gives us through prayer, meditation, Scripture, study and the Sacraments. Gifts that, once we embrace, can unite us to His very heart and mind. Once we do that, things become much clearer and less confusing. Life takes on a brilliance that these gifts allow us to penetrate through to. These gifts are not difficult to find, but it does take discipline, commitment and most of all sacrifice. We must sacrifice our own will and desires for His. Because His is the will that will reign forever, and if we unite ourselves with him, we will too.
It is beautiful, truly. Our God so desperately wants us for himself that He submitted himself to the most humble existence of sacrifice and suffering. All he suffered and endured was in an effort to unite himself with us and consummate with each of us a most intimate union. The demons will fight for our souls with all that they have, their time is limited, and so is their power. Once we unite ourselves with our God, nothing can defeat us, and we can bring his beauty and Grace to all those around us, but we will be asked to endure suffering and sacrifice for this end as well. We will be asked to unite our sufferings and carry our crosses in union with the sufferings and Cross of Christ. The choice really is ours, and our brothers and sisters are free to choose as well.
Many will succumb to the wills and wiles of this world, which will end, and they then will end as well. But for those of us who can see the bigger, eternal vision, know that the journey is worth it. It may be long and tiring, and treacherous, but none of that will be remembered once we reach the prize. The prize of Heaven and union with God, far surpasses anything we can ever imagine. Prayer, meditation, Scripture, Study and Sacraments will lead the way. Knowing who we must follow is simple, most of us know this. Picking up our crosses and actually following the one we know to follow, is much more difficult. It is easy to say we love God, but much harder to show it. Many talk the talk, but few walk the walk, all the way to Calvary. If we truly love God our works will reflect that love. It really is that simple, to know anyway. The thing is though, we must do. Blessings to all who take up the work of Christ and let that work transform them into beacons of hope and faith for others. Hopefully, we can inspire this simple message to others along the way, so they can assume the arduous task of then putting it into action.
It is easy to say we have Faith, but much harder to put that Faith to the test with our works! Welcome to the Catholic mission, started with Jesus and continued by his Saints.
