What? Wait—What Did You Say?
Sometime ago, life had dragged me down, drained and emptied me and as I sat at Mass awaiting the reading of the Gospel---the Holy Spirit sent a whispered word into my mind. “LISTEN” Immediately the words were being read from John Chapter 2
* On the third day there was a wedding* in Cana* in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.a 2Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. 3When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” 4* [And] Jesus said to her, “Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come.”b 5His mother said to the servers, “Do whatever he tells you.”c 6* Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings,d each holding twenty to thirty gallons. 7Jesus told them, “Fill the jars with water.” So they filled them to the brim. 8Then he told them, “Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter.”* So they took it. 9And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing where it came from (although the servers who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom 10and said to him, “Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now.” 11Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs* in Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in him.e
Instantly, God was allowing me to see myself at those emptied jars in need of His refilling with the Living Water, the I AM. Coming home after Mass, I took a very close look at the whole reading and felt God had invited me to this Cana Wedding to begin again a Covenant relationship with Him. To be espoused to Him forever.
First line—“on the third day” ---why God was that important to be mentioned? Third day in the Bible—NEW LIFE begins. Okay then, next line I noticed---the mother of Jesus noticed the wine was short. This spoke to me how important it is to have our Blessed Mother watching out for us and bringing us to Jesus' attention.
“My hour has not yet come,” God perhaps is wanting us to know how important His perfect timing is in bringing about those miracles in our life.
“Do whatever He tells you.” Ah, the key to change coming into our life and miracles happening too.
“Now there were six stone jars” indicates we are people who are not quiet perfect or complete (#6 meaning). BUT, we are jars used for ceremonial washings, each holding twenty to thirty gallons. Wow, look at our potential and the role God has for us!!!! WOW!!!
People who serve, fill us to the brim with life giving waters. These are the people who love, who reach out, who obey—this is our role in the Cana Wedding, we bring that life giving waters into lives of others. THEN, we take them to the Head Man and put them in God’s Hands to bless and send forth to be given. And look, He states we are the best, not inferior, for now we have become part of that Wine poured out for all of mankind’s salvation.
So, who wants to be invited to a Cana Wedding? Reflect on this passage from John, ask God to allow you to receive all that He has for your life and ‘Do whatever He tells you to do!”
