How do I Hate Me!!
The LORD said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand
till I make your enemies your footstool.”
One of the hardest things for me to do is to “be still and know,” to draw away and pray and just be still. Being a mother of eight, I have been more of a Martha than a Mary while raising that family. Now, even though the nest is empty—the behavior lingers on. “Busy, busy, me” mentality on board everyday.
But look what was found in the readings one day!
Memorial of Saint Agnes, Virgin and Martyr
Reading 1 Heb 7:1-3, 15-17
Melchizedek, king of Salem and priest of God Most High,
met Abraham as he returned from his defeat of the kings
and blessed him.
And Abraham apportioned to him a tenth of everything.
His name first means righteous king,
and he was also “king of Salem,” that is, king of peace.
Without father, mother, or ancestry,
without beginning of days or end of life,
thus made to resemble the Son of God, he remains a priest forever.
Responsorial Psalm Ps 110:1, 2, 3, 4
The LORD said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand
till I make your enemies your footstool.”
The scepter of your power the LORD will stretch forth from Zion:
“Rule in the midst of your enemies.”
“Yours is princely power in the day of your birth, in holy splendor;
before the daystar, like the dew, I have begotten you.”
The LORD has sworn, and he will not repent:
“You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.”
Just LOOK at all the honors bestowed on Melchizedek by God!!!
Just look at what awaits for us, should we just sit at the right hand of God UNTIL He makes all of our enemies our footstool. Now He is not talking about ‘people enemies here’ at least not when He was speaking to me today. He was referring to my bad habits that persist like a thorn in my side that are like enemies---slowly destroying the temple of God that I am. God knows I have been praying for His help and mercy, the grace to overcome, the desire to overcome, BUT until you really WANT to do something—it will not happen.
So today God throws out this gem of advice—or rather a WORD of direction. Sit at My right hand. Be still and draw away, pray in silence. Bishop Fulton J. Sheen, St. Mother Theresa and all of God’s great saints and our Spiritual Leaders today will all say. An Hour before the Eucharist or before Jesus in Adoration will enable you to become the changed person you want to be. We are changed and set free of the 'enemies' or the bad habits that irritate our life, and steal our peace.
