The hidden life of the Holy Family
Right now, in the United States a movie is scheduled to show in times for Valentine’s Day. “Fifty Shades of Grey” won many readers and intrigued people’s curiosity enough to pick up this book series. I know many women who were curious as to what the fuss was all about. Well, I know what it’s about-lust. That is the true spirit behind this book. That is the lure, the trap, the lie that is sugar coated in this book and pervades everything in our culture. You cannot turn on a coca cola commercial without the message appealing to lust. As the adage goes, “Sex sells.”
Sex may sell, but love gives. Jesus gave us Himself. We weren’t made for lust. We were created to desire love, supreme love. We were made for God. God wants us. He wants to be so close to us, so near to us that He became one of us. Then He made Himself even smaller. He gave everything up for us, He spilled His life blood out for us to be new. Before He gave His life up in death, He shared a meal with His loved ones. He gave us the gift of Himself. He wanted to be so close to us, so near to us, He made Himself our food to be one with us, to be absorbed in our cells, so we would have His life, divine life.
Jesus was scandalous. His family didn’t understand Him. He was called “crazy.” People thought He was possessed. They accused Him of breaking their sacred rules. He made friends with social rejects, He extended grace to shame filled women. He looked at us in all our weak moments, our brokenness. He loved us. He died for us before we loved Him back.
What appeals more to you? Christian Grey, the stalker-lusty valentine? Or Jesus, the true lover of our souls, the perfect Gentleman who waits for you to be ready for Him. Jesus respects your wishes, He does not use coersion. Will you watch Christian on the big screen or would you rather be a real Christian and return to Jesus, the best possible valentine that ever was born to us?
