Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice!

"Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice!"
I have sought you all the days of my life-
Seeking you in the people I meet;
Praying to you on my arthritic feet;
Attempting to walk with you through all of life's strife.
I find myself advanced in many years-
My hands unsteady, gnarled and dry as old tree roots;
Believing and hoping like Anna of old, living out Old Testament truths;
My heart yearning to hear you with both open ears.
A cry from the babe to ring in the night,
I'm patiently hoping to feel your presence deep in me,
Knowing you want one on bended knee,
Faithfully looking for your light, light, oh so bright.
On Christmas Day I sing you my song-
A chant of joy and praise, knowing you are truly here;
Your promise fulfilled to your people so dear:
The messiah has come- the one for whom we waited so long!
