Day 115 – The Letter of James
Today’s reading: Luke 14
The cost of discipleship is high! Jesus said:
… “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.” Luke 14:25-27
It’s always is important to think carefully about what Jesus is saying. We know from experience that when we become Christian we are not required to immediately start hating our family. So what’s Jesus talking about? What he’s saying is that your commitment has to be total. It could be that family members will challenge you. It certainly will be that there will be crosses to bear. Whatever the challenges you must devote yourself to his discipleship.
Tomorrow: Luke 15
