Facing Fear with Courage
"Our hearts will be restless until they rest in You.”
St. Augustine
The world we live in has run amuck,
So much noise, so many distractions, no anchor;
Our bodies and souls pulled back ‘n forth
As if on an unending roller coaster.
Repeating the same mistakes over and over,
No connection to our true self, our true destiny;
That which once was whole through baptism
Is now shattered in a myriad of pieces.
Self-help books offer no remedy, no deep truths;
Telling ourselves lies to cover up our emptiness.
“Man has always been lost, but modern man has lost his address,
And cannot return home.”(Chesterton))
“How long, O Lord, how long,” we cry.
Our eternal hunger is never satisfied in food, drink:
The “things of the earth,” but in Someone,
Someone who created, died and rose from the dead,
All for love of us.
We forget life has a goal, only realized in
The eternal existence offered by the Creator;
He who made us in His own image-
“ In Him you have been made complete.”
