Dearest God
I'm hurting after the death of my beloved, _________.
I don't understand why he (she) had to die.
I tremble with the loss of all that was good in my life.
When he (she) died, I felt that I also died.
But, I must go on.
I know that his (her) death is not in vain, but fills a higher purpose even if I don't fully understand.
I know You will for me live and that is why I remain here.
I know You are mercy and goodness but sometimes I grow faint with my cross and need You to strengthen me.
This is a heavy cross that You ask me to carry. I struggle with it, Lord.
Please lighten my sufferings enough so I do not turn away from You who love me. Send the Holy Spirit to comfort me.
Remind me that my beloved is destined for heavenly life where death has no power and happiness is found with You.
I pray for the forgiveness of sins, for Your grace, and I pray for my beloved.
Help me to carry on today, to mourn with hope in You, the giver of life and the joy of every believer.
Amen

Recently I've thought about some friends who are going through a deep personal loss of a loved one. It's hard to know what to say to them. And so I decided to write this prayer inspired by my own personal experience with death. I hope it might help anyone who is suffering with the loss of a loved one.
