The thoughts of God; learned or inherited?
Men have searched for eons to find hidden treasures, elusive pleasures, and even God to whom they don’t know. The attraction for wealth is a never-ending quest, but the search for God becomes less each day.
Where is this elusive Deity that should be sought by everyone, yet looked for by only a few? If only those who yearn for treasures could understand that the God they do not seek is the very one that awaits their choice to know. Augustine put it so succinctly when he said; “Our hearts are restless until they rest in you.”
Searching for God.
Finding God must begin with a search for Him, even if we do not know whom or what we are looking for. It will be like climbing a mountain with a view towards an image that is shrouded in secrecy and yet attracts the mind of man to encounter this burning bush. What lies beyond is the first step to an unseen quest, a wealth of answers without a question yet formulated.
Understanding our search.
Searching brings a second step in finding this God we do not yet know. It is the understanding of who this silent entity is all about. If an understanding is not revealed how then can man even know who or what his search is about? We may never find the way through a maze of unanswered questions without a sure direction through the paths of uncertainty, relentless falls, and constant attacks from an enemy not yet revealed. There is no doubt the steps do not get easier, yet each one may clearly open our eyes to seek the next one.
Encountering the Mystery of God.
Once we begin to see, as Paul puts it, “At present, we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face.” (1 Cor. 13:12). It is then that our search, with a little more understanding, when we will be prepared to understand what was hidden for ages. Christ and His proclamation of Love will open to each of us a sure path to encounter the Living God. From the “Mystery of the Church” God’s Plan was hidden for ages, revealed in Christ, and realized through man.
Living in the Light of Christ.
Our search brought us an understanding and revealed an encounter with a Mystery. However, these are just the beginning of a Mystery not yet found to whom this God is. Learning how His Love has enabled our souls to get beyond the darkness of doubt and open to us the Light that John speaks of; “What came to be through Him was life, and this life was the light of the human race.” (Jn. 1: 4). “The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.” (Jn. 1: 9). It is the Light of Christ which reveals to us God.
The Holy Spirit Enables our Search.
This Light has become the facet that enables man to learn about God. The shackles that appeared to tie our intellect and allowed the worlds attractions to become more important smothering the very presence of God has now enabled man to step back and understand why his direction might keep his soul from letting God into his spirit. God has become the enabler of man’s needs.
As we grow in faith we continue Learning about our God.
Finally, we have reached a step in finding God that allows each one to learn the answer Who is God? If man looks for a question of the answer he will find that our constant faith journey is one of continued learning, without understanding who God is, but encountering the light that burns within each soul and continues our search for a deeper path to finding God.
