World Doula Week! How doulas help families and what is a doula anyway?
If your family has a question of a place to go this summer, you might want to consider the San Antonio Mission Trail in San Antonio, TX.
The missions are: The Alamo, Mission Conception, Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan, Mission Espada. Go here to learn more about them: https://www.nps.gov/saan/index.htm
There's also the San Antonio Riverwalk area -- the Alamo is downtown near the Riverwalk -- so if you park upstream then take the Riverwalk to the Alamo. It will be a cooler experience than walking upstairs in the heat!
Here's a link to a Map of the Riverwalk and the missions are listed too: http://www.sanantonioriver.org/images/SARIP-map/SARIP%20Full%20Map-web1.pdf
Some of the missions have volunteers that will take you through the mission and tell you more about the history of them if you want to take the extra time to do this. Note: The Alamo tour costs something.
Gift shops: Well, most of the gift shops are nice but "pricey". Mission Espada is the only reasonably priced mission shop; so save your pennies and buy something nice there if you are looking for gifts, etc.
Before you leave San Antonio - -there is one more stopping point that you should put on your agenda. This is a little secret that I did not know about til this year. "The Basilica of the Shrine of the Little Flower" -- also known as National Shrine of Little Flower and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. This shrine is a little north west of town off 1-10.
See this website for more info: https://littleflowerbasilica.org/
It is a beautiful Church to see and you probably won't want to leave!
Well, we hope your family will enjoy a vacation and some time in San Antonio!
