I was facing a crisis. Two opposing circumstances were causing me to lose sleep. I could potentially see myself fixing one situation, but not the other. The most likely scenario was that both would blow up in face. I paced in bedroom, trying to figure what I could do.
Then, I remembered a homily my pastor gave. He told a story wherein he was on a road trip and was in a foul mood. While driving, he was listening to a talk on tape. The man on the tape asked, "Is something bothering you?". My pastor thought to himself, Yes, I'm ticked. Then man said, "Nail it to the Cross." He followed the man on the tape's command, and it worked. Whatever was bothering him at the time was lifted.
I decided I had nothing to lose. Ceasing pacing, I planted myself in front of my Crucifix and said, "Lord, I don't know what to do, so You take it. I am nailing this to the Cross. You take it."
Much to my surprise, it worked. My anxiety was lifted, and I was able to sleep. In fact, I cannot even remember what it was that had me so worked up.
Far too often, we underestimate how powerful prayer can be. We forget that "If you have faith and do not doubt...even if you say to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' it will be done. Whatever you ask for in prayer with faith, you will receive" (Matthew 21:21-22). What may seem impossible can come to pass if you trust the Lord and ask for his aid.
So, if there is something in your life you think you may not be able to overcome, nail it to the Cross. Offer your anxieties up to the Lord, and ask Him to take them.
