There is a new film being released about Dr. Kermit Gosnell, who performed abortions in Philadelphia.
The movie, Gosnell: The Trial of America's Biggest Serial Killer, was crowd-funded and faced numerous challenges to become a reality. It is now playing and stars: Dean Cain, Janine Turner, and Earl Billings.
Dr. Gosnell aborted preborn children well into the third trimester and once joked that one of the preborn babies he aborted was so big, he could have walked to the bus stop.
On May 13, 2013 he was convicted of first degree murder for the deaths of three babies born alive during the late term abortions, as well as a count of involuntary manslaughter for the death of Karnamaya Mongar.
Dr. Gosnell's abortion clinic was able to operate for many years primarily due to the lack of state inspections, which is attributed to the political climate in which abortion on demand was viewed as more important than other concerns. The clinic performed abortions on women in filthy, sub-par conditions. Its clients were mainly the very poor, minority women of West Philadelphia.
The clinic ran with no state inspections despite numerous complaints for over fifteen years, through the Ridge and Rendell administrations. Critics charged that access to abortion on demand was seen as more desirable than the safety of the poor women. The case demonstrated the reality of late term abortion.
The movie has met with other problems due to its subject matter. Planned Parenthood forced a Hyatt Regency hotel (in Austin, Texas) to cancel a pre-screening of the film.
It seems truth is a difficult subject sometimes.
