Thus Will I Test Them
A long time ago, a perfect man and a perfect woman, became discontented with their perfect world and wanted more. So a very wise Creator—allowed more to come into their world.
The now less than a man, and less than the woman they were created to be—were gifted with two sons—Cain’t and Able. Because the sons came into the world from ‘Less than they used to be’ parents—the brothers also were having to deal with discontent—well only one really—Cain’t. He saw how his brother “ABLE” was given the ability to not only do good, but to do really good in all that he did. This made the brother Cain’t mad, jealous and up to no good. One day, because he detested Able so much he decided to be rid of him, to take him out of his life. He killed him, and buried him---or so he thought. But Able being the good, loving brother rose up within Cain’t and said to him. I will always be a part of you for I am your brother who loved you. If you choose, you can learn from me and then be ABLE to do all I did and even more. But instead of choosing to love, Cain’t stayed marked forever by his guilt, bitterness and resentment, and traveled on carrying this look on his face of the painful struggle within.
This is our story too, we all struggle with the good and negative emotions within. A part of us we love and a part we hate, or as Father R. Rohr describes our true self, our false self. Unless we choose to stay connected with LOVE and walk with the Wisdom of love and walk in LOVE'S WAY—we too will be marked outwardly by our inner pain and struggle daily to bury that hurt within. Until we scream out--I CAIN'T live this way anymore and change. It is then that we will be ABLE--able to do all things through God who created us.
