Ode to Solitude
Epiphany, the Light of the World Revealed
High above the darkened world
Light from heaven comes-
Comes as a babe, the Messiah,
Human, yet divine.
The Messiah, so long awaited,
Offers salvation to all who ask;
To all who believe, the one
“Who is to shepherd my people, Israel.”
His star in the east,
Above Bethlehem is seen.
Magi, from afar, seeking, like all
The babe, newborn king of the Jews.
We, like Magi, seek your radiance;
Come to worship, offer tribute.
Doing homage with gifts of self,
Sacrifice and sustenance.
Our joy, thankfulness and praise
Sing in wonder what God has revealed:
The light of the world manifest-
Christ, exalted, Savior of the world.

Mary Rivers retired to beautiful Point Clear Ala on Mobile Bay. A lifelong Catholic she graduated from UNC, Chapel Hill. She was one of the first, if not the first, Catholic hired in Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system. She was a reading specialist and doing graduate studies until she married her husband, Jim.
