Seeing the Transfiguration of Jesus Today
“Come follow me,” the Master says
To Matthew, Peter, James and us.
“I come, not to call the righteous.”
The ones He calls are men, us sinners.
Going out into the wilderness, ere’mos,
Each one communing with God as the host;
Each person seeking an oasis of peace,
Encountering Jesus with God in a deserted place.
Emptying himself, taking the form of a slave,
He carries His cross for our human sake.
Rising from death, He stays not in the grave.
Christ, our Lord, is the one who can save.
Come to the rock, the one who is Christ.
Come empty-handed, like a beggar stripped;
Come with a heart, steadfast in faith;
Come, let aversion and strife be unknown.
Baptized, confessed sins are not remembered
If wicked men turn away from sins committed.
With each sin only earthly pleasure is derived,
God and man rejoice if a life is always well lived.
To do what He does is to come with Him.
To purify oneself, setting one free from sin,
To pray each day to be a worthy instrument,
To serve with generosity, is a supplicant’s intent
Hopefully the soul becomes completely emptied,
Then only can one say, “Here I am Lord, tired,
I come to do your will, to follow You.”
And Jesus comes deep within to fill His brother’s soul.
